STUDY ABROAD
my short term Smith Business School coursework in Italy and Thailand
Business of Italian Design & Culture
BMGT 458G - Italy, Summer 2011
Completed course work in Italian business and culture in Florence, Rome, and Milan; visited several international organizations and interacted with business executives for an increased understanding of global business; observed culture and enhanced language skills.
I really enjoyed the diversity of organizations visited on this trip; from a small silver making family run business, to an olive oil farm and inn set atop a beautiful Italian hillside, to the prestigious Giorgio Armani headquarters. Every day was an exciting new learning opportunity and adventure. It was also mind-blowing to visit landmarks, such as the Colosseum, that I had only previously seen in books and movies, to learn both historical lessons and business concepts.
Most valuable lesson learned: "Find your passion. Pursue it. Work will never feel like work when you love what you do."
Social Value Creation & Entrepreneurship
BMGT 469T - Thailand, Winter 2013
Completed course work in Thai business and culture in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai; explored the role of Corporate Social Responsibility in large domestic and multinational companies; captured facets of social value creation in businesses across Thailand's varied regions; explored Thai culture and values through brief but fulfilling immersion in local households, businesses, and customs.
All of the smiling faces and selfless individuals in Thailand truly touched my soul! I cannot even begin to put into words how special this study abroad trip was for me. Visiting a place so rich in culture and history was a magnificent experience. This course demonstrated the importance of social resposibility from an international perspective, and helped me learn how to adapt in a culture completely oppoite from my own. I was taken to the edge of my comfort zone many times, but I am so, so thankful, as it allowed me to become more welcoming to other lifestyles and appreciate even the smallest of blessings.
Most valuable lesson learned: Appreciate your surroundings and the simple things in life. Happiness is a choice, and can be achieved regardless of your financial situations.
